Attended a pot-luck shindig this past Saturday hosted by a pal of mine who lives in Village of Oak Creek. The southbound portion of Sedona’s new Scenic 179 roadway, which runs between VOC and Sedona, is now open. Saturday’s trip was my inaugural drive along this new portion of scenic road. Wow! It’s
a near perfect design! The gentle turns that wind through the red rocks present southbound traffic with postcard-like views of Bell Rock and Court House Butte. A real treat for the eyes. Sure, I’ve seen these rock formations a thousand times, but seeing them from this newly completed roadway gave me (literally) a
new perspective. Gave me a few deep-breath moments similar to the very first time I drove into Sedona. And the party was fun,. too. Good people, good conversation, awesome food. (I made my standard: twice-baked cheesy potatoes, and I don’t mind saying, they were sooo good.) It’s warm enough now in Northern AZ
for cookouts, and I’m looking forward to that as well.
A couple girls in my store yesterday made me smile. They were young — probably twelve or thirteen — and said they couldn’t afford to buy anything, but asked if they could take

pictures of some of the art so they could remember their “shopping” trip that way. I know some stores would get nervous about that, but I told them that was fine by me. It was cute to watch them posing in front of the art and other items.
Oh, speaking of arts-‘N’-crafts stuff, Sedona Green will be receiving awesome, handmade frames by craftsman, Steve Roden, this week. We’ve all heard of 100-year barn wood, but usually nowadays, if you read the fine print, that’s a style description of how the wood “looks.” Steve builds his frames from genuine barn wood — most over a hundred years old — that have been demolished by farmers to make way for steel buildings.
There’s a new Coffee Lady at L’Expressino. She’s very likable.
I need to purchase a new CD player for the store. The laser is going kooky and it makes songs sk-sk-skip. I was playing Annie’s Other Song this morning — What? You didn’t know Annie has another song? — and I was trying to sing along in my best John Denver karaoke, but the high notes kept skipping backward and repeating until I finally had to give up.
Uptown Mall Plaza is planning a big, all-day event June 14th. More info on that as it approaches.
Anyone else enjoying the latest season of
Deadliest Catch?
OK, clearly there’s not much to blog about this Monday, so I’ll let you go. Need to price some ball caps anyway. Blog more at you next Monday.
Next Sedona Blog scheduled for 5-5-08.
